Dr. Schrader has a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from Indiana University, an M.L.S. in Library Science from the University of Toronto and an M.A. in History and Political Science from Carleton University. His Honours BA is from the University of Alberta. Intellectual freedom for libraries and the creation of theory in library science are among Dr. Schrader’s primary research interests.
SLIS Congratulates Dr. Schrader on his new role as the Director of Research at the University of Alberta Libraries. This appointment, within the Information and Financial Resources Unit, will be effective from July 1, 2009. Dr Schrader's role as the Director of Research may include advising, assisting and encouraging proposal development, data collection choices or procedures, and conference presentations or journal articles. “Dr. Schrader will be responsible for advising, assisting and encouraging librarians in all phases of research projects and activities, with a view to promoting a culture of applied research in the institution, and with a view of supporting a strong evidence-based culture placing research as a foundation for our strategic operational decision-making”, said Ernie Ingles, Chief Librarian and Vice Provost.
Other duties may include reviewing research funding proposals as requested, and working with other library staff to facilitate the development of a research culture. “I started my professional career with a passion for service-based research, and I am excited to return to that first love in helping to promote a culture and climate of sustained research among the staff of one of Canada’s leading research libraries”, commented Dr. Schrader on his new role at the University of Alberta.
