Up to $10,000, including an academic stipend, an internship stipend, as well as coverage of housing and travel expenses. The program includes a 6-12 week paid internship in a research library, a mentoring relationship with an experienced librarian, a leadership training curriculum, and the opportunity to work in an ARL library upon graduation.

Eligibility: 
Applicants must be members of an underrepresented racial or ethnic group (racial and ethnic group membership is based on the categories outlined in the U.S. Census. Racially and ethnically underrepresented groups include: American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, Hispanic or Latino); must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours from an ALA accredited MLS program prior to the beginning of the internship; and possess an interest in pursuing a career in a research libraries.

Requires an essay of up to 400 words addressing the following:

    1. What attracts you to an internship opportunity in an ARL library?
    2. What are your professional interests as they pertain to an internship opportunity in an ARL library?
    3. What are your goals for a six- to twelve-week internship?

Donor: 
Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and voluntary contributions from ARL member libraries.
