Workshops

We are offering a wide variety of workshops/1-credit courses this year that will meet the professional development needs of practicing information professionals and of SLIS students. Some of these workshop topics were requested by librarians, archivists, or records managers, while others were suggested by SLIS faculty members, who feel these topics are of growing importance in the information world. If you have particular workshop topics you would like to the School to offer, don't hesitate to contact the Interim Director (ernie.ingles@ualberta.ca) with your suggestions.

Prior to each weekend workshop, a short list of "pre-reading" articles will be made available to you, to provide you with some background knowledge before the workshop starts on Friday evening. Workshop participants will be awarded a certificate at the conclusion of the weekend session. The required post-weekend assignment completed by SLIS students taking the course for credit is optional for workshop participants (generally about 1/3 complete the assignment). Course instructors will do a general assessment of workshop participants' assignments, without a specific grade. Workshops are offered at a graduate level, so participants are assumed to have the general knowledge base of a master's level information professional.

Workshops are offered Friday 6-9pm, Saturday 9am-5pm, and Sunday 9am-12noon.

For further information, see the workshops listed under specific terms, or call the SLIS Main Office at 780-492-4578.
